My extended family lives in New Orleans, so every time we visit, we fall right back into tourist mode. Think ghost tours in the French Quarter, beignets at Café du Monde, and visits to the zoo and the aquarium and the insectarium (shoutout Audubon). But somehow, despite all the trips and the wandering, we've never made time to explore the city's independent bookstores. And considering how many literary gems are tucked into these streets... that's basically a crime.

As a proud book nerd myself, I'm a firm believer that indie bookstores are the heartbeat of their cities. They champion authors across genres, host events that bring together the community, and just offer a space for other like-minded, proud book nerds. Supporting these shops means keeping the magic of storytelling alive.

In this blog post, I'm spotlighting five indie bookstores in New Orleans that should be added to your travel itinerary. Whether you're a lifelong bibliophile or looking for a cozy escape from the heat, these shops are worth a stop (and you can see more from them on my Instagram). And I'm already excited to uncover even more the next time I'm back in the Big Easy!
